Has success gone to the "True Blood" star's head? Is her acting skills going downhill?
Based on director Bryan Singer's response, the answer to both questions is no.
Despite that, Singer removed the actress' scenes in the upcoming "X-Men: Days of Future Past" movie. As a result, she won't be seen in the Marvel flick when it's shown in theaters on May 23 next year, Entertainment Weekly reported.
The Oscar-winning 31-year-old filmed a rescue sequence that was "shot early in the film's production," according to the report. The sequence also involved actors Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, and Shawn Ashmore in their roles as Magneto, Professor X, and Iceman, respectively. However, the director had decided to cut this scene out of the film, effectively eliminating Rogue in the movie.
"Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous," Singer began. "It's a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she's in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won't appear in it."
The director put suspicions of him finding her acting inadequate to rest by saying that the actress "did a fantastic job."
"She was awesome in the sequence. She's a brilliant actress. I would work with her in a heartbeat," Singer revealed to Entertainment Weekly.
How did the actress react?
Singer shared that Paquin "completely understood," which revealed the depth of her professionalism. He also said that the cut is "very disappointing" and that she "knows that stuff happens, particularly with material you shoot early on in production."
Paquin's Rogue character was included in previous "X-Men" installments. However, according to the Daily Mail, it is assumed that the actress may not be returning to future sequels after next year's release.
