Have you seen the trailer of "X-Men: Days of Future Past"? If not, check it out right now (below).
If you have, notice anything different? And we don't mean with the cast or the story. Studio Cine Live's recent magazine cover should be a dead giveaway.
We're talking about the Wolverine's costume, which is no longer in that signature yellow-and-brown color scheme. The producers probably thought the brighter motif suited the comic series more than the big screen, considering the direction and tone of the more recent "X-Men" movies.
Come to think of it, they never really had Hugh Jackman, who played the temperamental mutant since the very first "X-Men" film, wear the characteristic yellow-and-brown costume Wolverine is known for. Maybe because the color combination isn't effective as camouflage or that it makes Logan look too cartoony when standing side-by-side with his mutant comrades.
ScienceFiction.com explained that the Wolverine costume is a clear example of director Bryan Singer's focus on function rather than fashion. As such, the claw-wielding character's costume is not the only one to get the Singer treatment. In fact, the costumes of the entire "X-Men" team and even the villains get a makeover, as what the cover of the latest issue of Studio Cine Live reveal. Their outfits are darker and more futuristic - perhaps to reflect the plots of the upcoming movie?
However, not all costumes get major tweaks - Mystique's look, for example, remains pretty much similar to the original rendering in the Marvel comic series.
According to The Wall Street Journal, "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will be in theaters in May 2014, starring James McAvoy as the young Charles Xavier and James Stewart as his older self. Sir Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender play the young and the older Magneto respectively. Hugh Jackman supports the leads as Wolverine while Jennifer Lawrence plays shape-shifting mutant Mystique.
