The Indiana Film Journalists have named "12 Years a Slave" the Best Film of the year.
The Steve McQueen picture also took home the Best Director award as well as the Best Actor accolade for Chiwetel Ejiofor. The movie also took the award for Best Score for Hans Zimmer.
Adele Exarchouplos surprised by taking home the Best Actress award for her role in "Blue is the Warmest Color" while Barkhad Abdi won the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in "Captain Phillips."
Jennifer Lawrence continued to build momentum by winning her third Best Supporting Actress prize for "American Hustle."
Meanwhile, the Best Adapted screenplay award went to "Before Midnight" and the Original Screenplay award went to Spike Jonze for "Her."
"Blue is Warmest Color" took home the Best Foreign Film award while "The Act of Killing" continued its winning streak for the Best Documentary award.
"Frozen" also continued to surprise in the Best Animated Film category giving fierce competition to "The Wind Rises," which was thought to be the front-runner early on in the race.
Among the films that made up the circle's top 10 included "Her," "Frances Ha," "Mud," "Prisoners," "Spring Breakers" and "The Wolf of Wall Street."
The Indiana Film Journalists was established in 2009. The organization's awards have rarely been good at predicting the Best Picture. Last year, the association gave "Safety Not Guaranteed" the Best Picture of the year. In 2011, they coincided with the Academy by awarding "The Artist," but in 2010 they gave the Best Film award to "The Social Network." In 2009, they awarded Jason Reitman's "Up in the Air"
