As previously confirmed, Bob Odenkirk will play the titular role of Saul Goodman, the criminal lawyer who came to the aid of meth manufacturer and dealer, Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.
The new series, "Better Call Saul", will explore the life of Goodman and how he came to be the lawyer that he is. According to Mashable, it is reportedly both a prequel and a sequel to "Breaking Bad."
In a statement by Netflix, the new series "tells the story of mall-based super lawyer Saul Goodman in the years before he became Walter White's attorney. From parking tickets to mass murder, from slip-and-fall to bond fraud, Saul handles it all."
The producers are still mum about the rest of the cast, but it has been hinted that "Breaking Bad" stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, who played White and Pinkman respectively, may make cameo appearances on the show. Creator Vince Gilligan told the Hollywood Reporter, "I'd have a hard time resisting putting all these guys in for a cameo or two every now and then."
According to The Independent, Netflix is yet to confirm when the series will be available for streaming, but they are banking on the success of "Breaking Bad" to hold with "Better Call Saul."
Said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos, "Breaking Bad is widely recognized as one of the great TV experiences in this new golden age of television. It has also proven very popular with Netflix subscribers around the world. This spin-off promises to continue its tradition of powerful storytelling. We are proud to be in business with Sony Pictures Television to bring Saul Goodman to our subscribers around the world."
Sony Pictures Television president, Steve Mosko said, "Coming off of the overwhelming success of Breaking Bad, we're excited to continue our collaboration with Vince, as well as Peter Gould, and that fans around the world will be able to embrace 'Saul'."
