In the U.S., hundreds of Latino immigrants seek the possibility to work in the government, but despite their academic preparation, their opportunities are limited.
In early December, a group of Dreamers gathered to ask authorities to give them the same treatment given to American residents regarding education, and now Latinos are asking for the same opportunities to work in the government.
According to the Associated Press, the number of American Latinos wanting to work in government is rising, but the opportunity to get a job is sometimes impossible since they don't know the right people.
Many government jobs have been given to African American citizens since they are supported by organizations that give them a preference.
This makes it clear that job opportunities for African Americans must be the same as American citizens which contributed to many jobs in government being under generations of African Americas.
The federal government released figures where, in over a million government workers, just over 8 percent are Latino, while 18.2 percent are African American, the AP quotes.
The AP shared the case of Latino Chris Gómez, a Penal Justice graduate that served in Iraq and wanted to work in government for a long time.
Gómez delivered his request to the Prisons Office and the Department of Labor, but despite being a First Sergeant in the Army, it wasn't enough for the government.
The co-president of the National Pro-Equality Coalition for Hispanics in Government, Edwards Valenzuela, told the AP that the Latino community living in the US has the chance of growing economically as long as they're given a fair chance to take government jobs.
