Steve McQueen's "12 Years a Slave" dominated the San Francisco Film Critics awards.
The film took awards for Best Adapted Screenplay for John Ridley and Best Actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor.
"Gravity" also continued its awards success. The film took home Best Director for Alfonso Cuaron as well as Best Cinematography for Emanuel Lubezki. The movie also won Best Editing and Best Production Design.
"American Hustle" also continued racking up awards, winning Best Original Screenplay as well as Best Supporting Actress for Jennifer Lawrence.
James Franco also took his second award for his role in "Spring Breakers" defeating front-runner Jared Leto for "Dallas Buyers Club."
Cate Blanchett once again proved to be unstoppable winning another Best Actress award for her role in "Blue Jasmine." The win marks her eighth with the critics circles.
Meanwhile, "The Act of Killing" garnered another Best Documentary award boosting its Oscar chances after suffering a number of losses with critics.
"Frozen" also continued to garner momentum winning Best Animated film, while the French film "Blue is the Warmest Color" won the Best Foreign Film.
The San Francisco Film Critics are known for choosing arthouse films over Hollywood movies. Last year, "The Master" topped the critics' circle. The year before, "The Tree of Life" was awarded the Best Film of the year, while in 2010 "The Social Network" won. Other past winners include "The Hurt Locker," "Milk," "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford," "Little Children," and "Brokeback Mountain." Out of these past winners, only one film has taken home the Best Picture of the Year at the Academy Awards.
