An official from the Mexican consulate in New York and his wife will be investigated by the police relating to the death of their 4-month-old son, after it was discovered the baby had bruises.
According to Sin Embargo, the NYPD started an investigation against Eduardo Rocha Bracamontes and his wife, Gina Ximena Ovalle, who took their baby to the NYU Longone Medical hospital in Manhattan on Tuesday, where the baby died minutes later.
According to El Universal, the preliminary autopsy carried out on the baby's body didn't reveal any indications of a crime; however, doctors found several bruises and scratches on the child's arms and back. The NYPD has now started an investigation to clear up the case's details.
The General Consulate of Mexico in New York said it would provide all assistance in accordance to International Law to the official and his wife, and said that the Consulate would pay special attention to the investigation's details.
The first information released as a result of the autopsy on the baby said the child had an infection in his left ear, a cut behind his ear, and four fractured ribs as a result of chest compressions.
Doctors revealed that the baby exhibited dehydration symptoms and low weight; however, this information does not imply criminal activities by the parents, and further examinations will be made to determine whether there was negligence or violence from his parents.
