With the small percentage increase, Apple held the top position as the No. 1 smartphone OEM in the U.S. with 40.6 percent, up from 40.4 percent.

Samsung also saw an increase in their market share and a higher growth compared to Apple. The South Korean-based organization saw an increase of 1.3 percentage points, but it was not enough to match against Apple's figures. Samsung concluded the three months ending in October this year with 25.4 percent of the smartphone subscribers in the U.S. To present a comparison, Samsung finished second as well in July 2013 with 24.1 percent.

Motorola improved its rankings among comScore's figures from fourth to third place as it bettered its market share by 0.1 percent. Motorola accounted for 6.9 percent during the three months ending in July this year but climbed to 7 percent by October.

Motorola's gain is HTC's loss.

HTC lost the most in its market share percentages, dropping 1.3 percent from July's figures. HTC accounted for 6.7 percent by October 2013, down from 8 percent in July. HTC ranked fourth, as a result, in comScore's ranks.

To round the top five, LG held fifth place again. LG lost 0.2 percentage points as it finished the three-month period ending in October this year with 6.6 percent of the smartphone subscribers market share in the U.S.

According to comScore, 149.2 million people in the U.S. are smartphone owners, which represented 62.5 percent of the total mobile phone market by the time October concluded.
