According to the OMS, cancer is one of the main causes of death globally, with 7.8 million deaths in 2008 alone.
Besides these terrible statistics, the fight against cancer that millions around the world go through is a long, painful process, a process that sometimes includes the families of patients.
This is why a French organization against cancer, the "Mimi Foundation", decided to create a project called "If Only for a Second", with the purpose of wondering how it would be like if cancer patients could live care-free, if only for a second.
After a patient is diagnosed with this disease, everything seems to become serious. "You immediately stop being a care-free person when you find out you're sick. And believe me, I was really care-free... I'd like to do that again", said a cancer patient to Time Magazine after watching the video, which a few days after being uploaded already has millions of views.
The project's idea is simple: 20 cancer patients were invited to a studio where make-up was applied, then a wig and they got a special hair-do. During the entire process they had to keep their eyes closed, and then taken to a room where they were seated in front of a mirror.
What the patients didn't know was that the wigs and make-up were completely funny, and when they opened their eyes they couldn't help but be surprised and amused, a completely care-free expression that lasted a second, and was caught by a professional photographer behind the mirror.
The experience was immortalized in a video and a 60-page art book which shows the funny headshots of these people who were able to forget about their fight, if only for a second.
