Microsoft's Windows Phone platform has failed to topple BlackBerry despite the latter encountering the steepest smartphone operating system market share loss based on new data.
According to comScore, BlackBerry lost 0.7 percentage points of the market share between the three months ending in July 2013 and the same period ending in October this year. Despite the percentage loss, BlackBerry maintained its position as the third most-utilized smartphone operating system in the United States.

BlackBerry finished the latest three months ending in October 2013 with 3.6 percent of the market share, which is down from the 4.3 percent by the conclusion of July early this year.
Windows Phone saw an increase of 0.2 percentage points, which resulted in the Microsoft smartphone platform finishing October with 3.2 percent of the market share. Windows Phone ranked fourth among the top five smartphone operating systems provided by comScore.
Windows Phone managed to outperform Symbian, which placed last with 0.2 percent of the smartphone operating system market share. In the process, Symbian lost 0.1 percentage point from the three months ending in July early this year.
Apple and Google battled for the No. 1 position of top smartphone operating system in the U.S. Google's Android platform secured the top spot with a 11.6 percent lead ahead Apple's iOS.
Android finished the three months ending in October 2013 with 52.2 percent of the market share, which is a 0.4 percent increase from July. Apple's iOS saw a minor increase of 0.2 percentage points. With the increase, iOS finished at second place with 40.6 percent of the market share.
