On Dec. 12 the Golden Globes will announce the nominations for Best Film of the Year.

The Golden Globes have two categories for best film. The comedy category is sometimes not taken seriously as the organization sometimes chooses unpredictable choices that are not very good. For example, the Globes chose "The Tourist," "Alice in Wonderland" and "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen;" films which were not highly regarded by critics.

However, this year a number of Oscar candidates will compete in the category. The front-runner is "American Hustle" as it features the most stars and it also has the best critical reception. Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street" will most likely get nominated as it features Leonardo DiCaprio and Scorsese is a director the Globes have honored a number of times.

"Inside Llewyn Davis" is probably the only musical type film as it features a number of music performances. The film will most likely get nominated because of this factor. However, it is important to note that the Globes failed to nominate the Coen Brothers' last comedy entry for the category. That film was "A Serious Man," which was only nominated for Best Actor.

"Nebraska" will most likely get nominated as most Alexander Payne films have at the Globes. "The Descendants" and "Sideways" both won top prizes at the Globes.

"Her" will also be a top candidate especially after so many critics' awards. Long-shots include "Before Midnight," which will most likely be considered too small for the organization, "August: Osage County," and "Enough Said," which features TV actors who most likely already are at the ceremony.

The Golden Globes will be handed out on Jan. 12.
