Siva Kaneswaran, the 25-year-old pop heartthrob from boy band The Wanted, has been dating shoe designer Nareesha McCafferey for six years and felt that the time was right to take things to the next level.
"I love her... I love every bit of her," Kaneswaran unabashedly confessed to Hello! Magazine in an exclusive interview. This may be why he decided to turn his own birthday bash into an engagement party.
"I found out Nareesha was planning a surprise party on my birthday with her family so I thought [it was] perfect," he revealed to the U.K.-based publication as noted by People. "I'd bought the ring months before I'd been trying to figure out the right time."
He also mentioned the difficulty of pulling off a daring stunt on top of what was supposed to be a secret surprise party for the British singer. "It was like a military operation to plan the proposal. I couldn't even tell the other boys in the band in case they blew the surprise," he shared.
So, on the fateful occasion of his birthday, he turned his beloved girlfriend's plan on its head and shocked her with a surprise proposal.
"I said to her I wanted a present I would always remember this year by...for you to be my wife," Siva said. He later admitted that his now fiancé initially said no in her shock at seeing him "on bended knee with a three-carat diamond solitaire ring which he had specially designed," the Daily Mail reported. He revealed he almost fainted at her response.
Nareesha, however, later accepted his proposal.
"I'm still in shock. I don't like surprises and he really surprised me, but I was so happy. I can't wait to start planning the wedding," the 23-year-old shoe designer gushed.
It appears that The Wanted boys are the marrying kind as Siva's proposal came after band mate Max George's previous engagement to British actress Michelle Keegan. Max and Michelle, however, have since called off their engagement months ago.
