Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton has been something of a fashion icon. The 31-year old, despite being a royal, is known to be fuss-free, as far as her wardrobe is concerned.
Kate has been known to wear whatever she looks good in - high-end clothing or not. Notably, in an article from Yahoo! News, she was described as being "at home with the crown jewels, just as she is with high-street costume jewelry."
No wonder, during her appearance at the Odeon Leicester Square during the Royal film performance of "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom", her look caused a buzz on the internet when she was seen wearing a high-fashion sparkly accessory from Zara. The item has since been sold out online, but may still be found in a few Zara stores around the globe.
According to Us Weekly, "The jewelry - made up of five rows of clear crystal beads - is sold at Zara and retails for just 20 pounds, or $35.90. Paired with Middleton's cream-colored Roland Mouret 'Lombard' dress, however, it looks to be worth much more than that."
Donning affordable pieces made the Duchess an icon to royal watchers, and according to NY Daily News, the frenzy her sparkly beaded necklace caused was not the first time that her fans wanted to copy her look.
"Over the summer, the fuchsia maternity dress from Séraphine that the Duchess wore in the royal portraits taken after Prince George was born sold out quickly once the photos were released," the site reported. "In April, the polka-dot dress from Topshop that Middleton wore during a visit to Warner Bros. Studios also flew off the shelves."
Kate Middleton is, according to Us Weekly, proof that you don't have to spend a lot to look like a million bucks. "The Duchess of Cambridge stole the show at the U.K. red carpet premiere of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom on Dec. 5 - and she did it wearing a gown that was already in her closet and a statement necklace that cost less than $36."
