Events called "Seniores" and "Señoritas" were cancelled at an Anaheim High school for its 'demeaning' nature the Los Angeles Times reported.

For at least three years, students at Canyon High school would dress up as "gang members" and "pregnant women pushing baby strollers" during special weeks at school and all activities were approved by campus officials, the media agency continued.

The events were cancelled, however, after complaints were filed to the school and an investigation took place.

Aileen M. Sterling, executive director of secondary education for the district, deemed the events "hurtful" and "demeaning" to the Mexican culture and students of Latino descent, the Times stated as well.

Anaheim is part of Orange County, CA and Hispanics made up 34 percent of the total population in 2010.

In Los Angeles County, the Hispanic population is a bit higher making up 48 percent of the total population.

After two students informed their dissatisfaction over the message the event sent
