"Inside Llewyn Davis" won the Gotham Award for Best Picture of the year, beating out "Before Midnight," "Upstream Color," "Ain't Them Bodies Saints," and "12 Years A Slave"
Oscar contender "Fruitvale Station" won two awards including the Breakthrough Actor award for star Michael B. Jordan and Breakthrough Director for Ryan Coogler.
Matthew McConaughey won the Best Actor award for his role in "Dallas Buyers Club" beating Chiwetel Ejiofor, Robert Redford and Oscar Issac.
One of the biggest surprises of the night was when Brie Larson won the Best Actress award. Pundits had predicted Cate Blanchett would win for her role in "Blue Jasmine." However, the awards went for a smaller film and a younger actress.
"Jake Shimabukuro: Life on Four Strings" also surprised as it won the Audience award beating out heavyweights "12 Years A Slave" and "Fruitvale Station."
The Best Documentary award went to "The Act of Killing." Other nominees included "The Crash Reel," "First Cousin Once Removed" and "Our Nixon."
An award for Spotlight on Women Filmmakers "Live the Dream" Grant was also handed out, awarded to Gita Pullapilly for her film "Beneath the Harvest Sky," which is currently in post-production.
The awards ceremony also included tributes to Richard Linklater, James Gandolfini, Katherine Oliver and Forest Whitaker.
Celebrities in attendance included Kathryn Hahn, Julie Delpy, Ethan Hawke, Melonie Diaz, Rashida Jones, Lee Daniels, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jared Leto, Oscar Issac, John Goodman, Mira Nair and Darren Aronofsky.
