Despite the launch of Apple's latest smartphones, the Cupertino-based organization's mobile operating system lost a piece of its market share, according to data from the United States.
According to Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, Apple's iOS lost 6.4 percentage points of its market share when comparing the latest three months ending in October this year and the same period in 2012.

The iOS platform finished October 2013 with 40.8 percent of the smartphone operating system market share, down from the 47.2 percent last year. Despite the percentage loss, Apple maintained the second-place position among the smartphone operating systems.
First place, once again, went to Google Android. The Google mobile operating system was able to increase its market share percentage after a close call against iOS during the three months ending in October in 2012. Last year, iOS was 0.5 percent shy from tying Android with 47.2 percent to 47.7 percent, respectively.
Android managed to increase its market share percentage by 4.9 points. Android finished the three months ending in October this year with 52.6 percent.
The second mobile operating system to encounter positive gains was Microsoft's Windows Phone. The Microsoft mobile platform saw an increase of 2.3 percentage points when comparing the latest three-month period to the same time frame last year. Windows Phone accounted for 4.8 percent of the smartphone operating system market share by the time October 2013 concluded, which is up from the 2.5 percent last year.
BlackBerry completed the top four of Kantar Worldpanel's latest data. BlackBerry, similar to Apple, lost ground in its market share with 0.8 percentage points. BlackBerry garnered 0.8 percent of the smartphone operating system market share, down from the 1.6 percent from the three months ending in October last year.
