MTV Latin America is releasing its third teen telenovela, entitled "Ultimo Año," this September. The soap opera, which is filming in Mexico City, will be broadcast by MTV Latino America before airing in the United States on "Tr3s: MTV Musica y Mas" reports Fox News Latino.

The intrigued and romance filled series will star Mexican actress Kendra Santa Cruz as Celeste, Mexican actor Martin Barba as Benjamin, Colombian actor Mauricio Henao as Martin and Mexican actress Lliana Gomez as Fernanda.

According to Fox News Latino, the soap opera will explore issues of sexual health, birth control, HIV/AIDS and cyber bullying. "Ultimo Año," which is slated for 70 episodes, is written by Chilean writer Josefina Fernandez and scriptwriters Claudia Bono, Francisca Bernardi and Hugo Morales.  Bono also participated in the creation of MTV Latino America's first two soap operas, "Niñas Mal" and "Popland."

Fernandez, who created and wrote the script for the second season of the Chilean television series "Los archivos del Cardenal," told Fox News Latino, "It's a story that mixes the intensity of young people with suspense really well."

The soap opera, which is described as a psychological thriller by the network, is said to be inspired by the novel "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and the film "Catch Me If You Can."

"Ultimo Año" will air in Latin America on September 3, 2012; its U.S. release date has not been set yet.
