A spectacular confrontation between Border Patrol agents and dozens of people happened Sunday on the border separating Tijuana and San Diego.
According to El Nuevo Herald, various border patrol agents were attacked with rocks when they tried to stop about a hundred people who had crossed the border illegally.
Although the incident took place Sunday, a video was leaked on Tuesday which shows the moment when dozens of people attack the agents with rocks, without anyone being injured. Border Patrol agents used tear gas to stop them.
Witnesses claim it was all a trick
According to Univisión, at least 200 immigrants participated in the incident, which was recorded by three video cameras.
The same source quotes various immigrants that say they were tricked into going, claiming they had been promised help to cross into the U.S. and instead, they became part of a movie scene being filmed there.
Bryan Chilian, the Mexican filmmaker that filmed the scene, told Univisión that he didn't mean to manipulate the people involved, but that he casually found a great number of immigrants trying to cross the border and decided to film them.
Border authorities said the immigrants returned to Mexican soil and no arrests were made.
According to El Nuevo Herald, clashes between immigrants and border patrol officers are not uncommon; however, this one stands out due to the large number of immigrants involved.
The same source reports that the Border Patrol had been attacked with rocks 185 times in 2012 alone.
