Olivia Wise, the 16-year-old teenager that some months ago became an Internet phenomenon after recording her own version of Katy Perry's "Roar", lost the battle against the terminal cancer she suffered this Monday in Toronto, reported local media.
Last September, Wise recorded an acoustic version of Katy Perry's popular song after finding out there were no more treatments available to save her life from an inoperable brain tumor.
The teenager's story, who refused treatment so she could spend her last days at home with her family, caught the attention of Katy Perry herself, who uploaded a video to YouTube in support of Olivia and her family.
"I'm moved by your great sound. I love you. The love people have for you is one of the reasons your video moved me. I'm very touched by what I just saw. Keep roaring!" said the singer in the video uploaded to YouTube.
Besides becoming one of the most-seen videos since last September with over one million seven thousand visits so far, Wise's video help raise $77,000 through the Live Wise Fund, created in her name to support research on brain tumors, reported yesterday ABC 15.
Finally, Wise stopped roaring on Monday, November 25 surrounded by her family and friends at her Toronto home, reported the Daily Mail.
In a press release quoted by CNN, Olivia's family said that "She died at peace in her home, surrounded by the extraordinary love of her family".
Weeks before her death, Wise said that she didn't want people to cry at her funeral, but to celebrate her life, said her mother, via CNN.
After the teenager's regrettable death, users from around the world published messages of support for the family on social networks, highlighting the words of Katy Perry who said on her Twitter account that Olivia's strength has inspired many.
Olivia Wise, I can hear you singing with the angels now. Your spirit & strength has inspired me & so many others... May you rest in peace.
