David O. Russell's "American Hustle" has finally been screened for critics and the Screen Actor's Guild.
Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper, the film tells the story of a con man, Irving Rosenfeld, who, along with his seductive British partner Sydney Prosser, is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso. DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia.
After the screening the film viewers gave the film a standing ovation and praised the actors and Russell's direction. However, reviews were embargoed until after Thanksgiving.
The cast and director were also at the screening where Russell praised his cast and said that he liked the themes of the film. "I got very excited about these actors playing these roles," said Russell, according to Variety.
Adams praised Bale and Lawrence for their acting abilities: "He is such a hero to me ... He's such a rock." She went on to describe Lawrence as "fearless and so much fun to work with," and said that Cooper has "tireless positivity - and is a good dancer."
When asked about the upcoming "Batman vs. Superman" film in which she will reprise the role of Louis Lane, Adams said that she had not read a script. She also declined to answer any specific questions about the project.
"American Hustle also stars Louis C.K., Robert de Niro, Alessandro Nivola, Elisabeth Rohm, Dawn Olivieri, Jack Huston and Michael Pena. Sony will release the movie on Dec. 18 in limited-release and will expand on Dec. 20 nationwide.
