Joseph Gordon-Levitt is rumored to play the Sandman in DC Comics adaptation for Warner Bros.
According to Badass Digest, David Goyer pitched a script to the studio with Gordon-Levitt slated to play the lead role.
However, none of this has been confirmed; the project could be in the very early stages of development.
The author of the original graphic novel, Neil Gaiman, spoke to MTV about the project. "What tended to happen a lot in the '90s was the point where Warner [Bros.] would get relatively close to making a Sandman movie, and then somebody would get realistic about the fact that the film would not be PG-13. It would be incredibly big and expensive, and it would never really be made or the sequence of films that you would need to make Sandman would never get made. I think things like the Dark Knight films kind of changed that, just how big and dark you could get," Gaiman told MTV.
He concluded: "A Sandman movie is going to be too expensive for anyone to make a lousy movie at this point. But I also hope when they make a movie it won't be safe, whatever it is."
"The Sandman" comic tells the story of Morpheus who is captured by an Aleister Crowley-like magician and his quest to reclaim his throne after escaping.
Warner Bros. has developed a number of DC Comic films. They have previously developed "V For Vendetta," "Watchmen" and "Green Lantern." The company has also developed the Batman films and Superman movies. Currently the studio is working on "Batman vs. Superman."
