Uruguay qualified for the World Cup after a 0-0 draw at home against Jordan.

The tie was probably the most surprising result of all the second legs; the South American contingent looked rather uninterested throughout the match. However, it's hard to blame the team after it managed to build a 5-0 away win in the first leg.

Initial reaction might be that the team did not field its top stars, but this is far from the case. Diego Godin, Diego Lugano, Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani and Martin Caceres started the game. Diego Forlan came on in the second half as a substitute.

Jordan was obviously the more desperate team as it needed a 6-0 win to get to the World Cup. An impossible task for sure, but one still worth attempting.

Uruguay rounds out the number of South American sides to six as the team will join the likes of Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil and Chile in next summer's tournament.

Uruguay struggled with its form throughout 2012-13 but is seemingly back up to par after a solid showing at the Confederations Cup this summer and an equally impressive run in the qualifiers this fall. Suarez — who failed to win the World Cup qualifiers' scoring title with his 12th goal — and Cavani are having terrific seasons for their respective clubs and it would be tough to ignore the duo's potency. The defense remains a minor glitch for the side while the midfield is still very much a work in progress.

Is Uruguay a top contender for next summer's World Cup?
