The Wisconsin Children's Hospital had to be closed Thursday after a firefight took place in its facilities. Currently, no one has been reported injured.
According to first reports from Reuters, the Milwaukee county sheriff, David Clarke, confirmed that a man fired a gun in the seventh floor of the Children's Hospital.
Clark said that the suspect was apprehended after being shot by police officers as they tried to subdue him, without anyone else being injured.
According to Fox News, Ashanti Hendricks, 22, was identified as responsible for firing the weapon inside the Hospital on Thursday, Nov. 14.
Police officers that were present told Fox News that Hendricks was carrying a baby in his arms when he was surprised by the police on the seventh floor of the Hospital.
Cornered, Hendricks placed the baby on the floor and attempted to escape; however, he was arrested by police officers. During the chase, the suspect was shot in the arm. There has been no confirmation he shot at officers first.
The suspect was transported to the Froedtert Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries that didn't put his life at risk, Fox News reported.
According to Reuters, on Thursday afternoon, the Wisconsin Children's Hospital put out a press release saying that "the situation has been contained, the hospital building itself will remain closed until the police calls off the alarm."
The Wisconsin Children's Hospital is one of the busiest hospitals in the United States, with a total of 350,000 patients in 2011 alone.
