After the upheaval caused early this month by the discovery of a small alligator in one of the escalators of O'Hare International Airport, Chicago authorities have revealed a series of photographs showing a woman as she apparently abandons the 18 cm-long animal.
According to information published by CNN, the Transit Office and Chicago Police managed to collect photographs captures by the 3,600 security cameras throughout the city which show the woman from the moment she boards a train with the alligator in her arms, up until she arrives at O'Hare's train station without the reptile.
Last November 1, Tineka Walker, a security guard in Terminal 3 of O'Hare, made a routine patrol when a passenger told her about a small alligator moving underneath one of the escalators.
Walker told CNN that: "The owner probably realized she wouldn't be able to get it through the checkpoint and simply abandoned it, but, oh my god!"
According to Telemundo, the Department of Aviation reported that workers discovered the reptile under an escalator, and proceeded to capture it.
The animal was then delivered to the Chicago Herpetological Society, where it was reported to be healthy, despite it being exposed to a bad feeding regime.
Chicago authorities have shared photographs of the woman who they suspect had abandoned the alligator.
"The woman responsible for this act might face charges for a minor crime for cruel treatment of an animal or a fine from $300 to $1,000 for animal cruelty" quoted CNN.
