A Mexican mayor stars in the recently-released film "El último Bazucazo," a story based on the organized crime groups operating in Mexico.
Francisco Javier Pulido Alvarez, Mayor of Zapotlanejo in the state of Jalisco, shared credits with actors Hugo Stiglitz, Fernando Saenz, Valentín Trujillo, María Mercedes Anaya and Flavio Peniche.
According to CNN México, the mayor used taxpayer money to support the movie.
"El último Bazucazo" is the second movie in a saga which tells the tales of the lives of drug traffickers in Mexico and the fights between criminal groups. Both movies were filmed in Sinaloa, but for the second one, the mayor granted them use of locations in Zapotlanejo.
In the movie, Alvarez plays the role of a senator of the Mexican Republic who fights for public safety until he becomes a victim of organized crime. The mayor justified his role in a government memo.
"Mayor Francisco Javier Pulido Alvarez was invited to play a Senator of the Republic, and his role would be to reject all corruption, and loses his life because of it. Given the noble motives of this movie, the Mayor accepted the role, since crime prevention is a part of his responsibilities," the memo reads.
The Mayor explained that his role in the film is part of his commitment to the fight against organized crime and said that he lent some equipment belonging to public safety officers to the production.
"I must inform with complete clarity that lent them a patrol car, two off-duty police officers also had a brief role. We granted them use of facilities as it happens with any kind of movie or TV show," said Alvarez in a video uploaded to social networks.
The music for the movies "El Primer Bazucazo" and "El último Bazucazo" came from Mexican corrido singers including "Comando Norteño", "Los 7 Tahuares" and "El Tigrillo." They can be seen on YouTube.
