On last night's episode of "Person of Interest," the team dealt with a network of corrupt officials: dirty cops, politicians and judges-- in addition to the Russian mafia.
The machine begins issuing new numbers, and all of them are of cops from HR. Reese (Jim Caviezel) goes with Fusco (Kevin Chapman) to see why HR is having problems. They find out that HR was supposed to protect a shipment belonging to the Russian mafia, but no one showed.
Since Carter's (Taraji P. Henson) partner was murdered, she makes HR think she's quitting the whole takedown. Then she goes rogue. She sends her son away and cuts ties with Reese, and even destroys her phone. But Fusco knows that she staged the scene, and that she's still involved in the operation.
Meanwhile, the alliance between HR and the mafia is breaking down. After they missed the shipment, the mafia wants to go it alone, without HR, and run their own security. Elias (Enrico Colatoni) then tells them that HR will betray them.
A shipment then goes missing, but it wasn't HR-- it was Carter.
Carter than shoots at Quinn, whose number came up. As retaliation for the attack he believes is from the Russians, he tells his cops to round everyone up, except for the boss. Carter then offers to help him in order to learn about Cal's death. She wants Peter Yogorov to become an informant. In exchange, she says she'll make sure his brother is safe. He reluctantly agrees.
Carter then gets prepared to take everyone down alone. She makes it to the judges' place and finds HR waiting for her, but she's ultimately glad that they're there to back her up. Reese helps her get Quinn, and they make their escape. However, Reese is spotted on camera, so HR now has a photo of him.
On the next episode, "The Crossing," one character may have to make the ultimate sacrifice to save Reese.
TVLine released an exclusive look at the trailer for the next two parts of the three-episode event. The trailer suggests that a major plot twist will unfold in the next two episodes. Watch it here.
"Person of Interest" executive producers Jonah Nolan and Greg Plageman gave a hint about the next two episodes. "We promised our actors and our audience that these characters wouldn't be static, stuck in an endless loop - that they would have a journey. And, of course, every journey comes to an end."
Later on in the season, Emmy winner Camryn Manheim ("The Practice") and Saul Rubinek ("Warehouse 13") will appear in a major story arc.
Manheim will play Diane, a loving wife whose brilliant husband, Arthur (Rubinek), is losing his mind. The POI team must rely on Diane to get through to her husband to save both their lives. Their arc will kick off in early 2014.
Watch the promo for the next episode, "The Crossing," which airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. on CBS.
