Following the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, Verizon Wireless has called upon its employees and customers to assist in aiding victims.
Verizon Wireless, which is the top mobile carrier in the United States, has committed to a $100,000 grant to the American Red Cross Philippines Typhoon Appeal Fund to aid disaster relief in the area.
The Verizon Foundation further revealed the company will match its employees' donations of $25 or higher, up to $1,000 per employee to the Save the Children charity.

In regards to Verizon Wireless customers, the mobile carrier announced they have waived long-distance charges and text messages to the Philippines from Nov. 8 to Dec. 7. The mobile carrier hopes the waived fees will aid customers trying to communicate with their families and friends.
Verizon Wireless added that Verizon customers using a landline will be rated at $0.00 per minute, and Verizon World Plan customers with 300 or 500 minutes of international calling will not have their minutes affected.
Verizon Wireless post-paid customers, those who receive a monthly bill from the carrier, will also get free calling to the Philippines between Nov. 8 and Dec. 7 with free text and multimedia messaging to the country.
"Typhoon Haiyan is one of the worst natural disasters the Philippine people have ever experienced, and the need for support and relief is immediate and immense," said Verizon's Vice President of Global Corporate Social Responsibility and President of the Verizon Foundation Rose Stuckey Kirk. "With operations around the world, Verizon and its employees run to crises such as Haiyan, and we're committed to helping citizens of Tacloban and other communities as they begin to recover from this devastating storm."
Verizon Wireless has also activated several text-to-donate programs for U.S. customers to make a $10 donation to up to seven organizations.

- Text HOPE to 777444 to give to WORLD VISION
