Joe Wright will direct the upcoming "Peter Pan" film for Warner Bros.

The British director is currently in talks to helm the "Peter Pan" origin story for Warner Bros. Greg Berlanti, known for his work on the TV show "Arrow," will produce the film. Screenwriter Jason Fuchs, best known for writing "Ice Age Continental Drift," will pen the script. Sarah Schecter is overseeing the making of the film for Warner Bros.

The announcement marks the second time Wright will work for a studio. He previously directed the critically-panned film "The Soloist" for Universal, which starred Robert Downey Jr. and Jaimie Foxx. He has also worked on three period films, all starring Keira Knightley: "Pride and Prejudice," "Atonement" and "Anna Karenina." Wright also directed an action film entitled "Hanna," which starred Saoirse Ronan. He is currently developing an adaptation of "The Little Mermaid" for Working Title.

The "Peter Pan" story has been adapted to film several times, including the 1953 Disney animated film, Stephen Spielberg's "Hook" and Marc Forster's 2004 film about author J.M. Barrie and his inspiration for "Peter Pan," "Finding Neverland."

Currently, Disney has plans to make a live action version similar to "Alice in Wonderland," in addition to adaptations of "Maleficient" and "Cinderella." Columbia Pictures is also producing a film about Peter Pan with Channing Tatum and Joe Roth producing.

Warner Bros. recently released "The Dark Knight" Trilogy, "Inception," "Argo," "Man of Steel," "Pacific Rim" and "Gravity." The company will next release "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," "Grudge Match" and "Her."
