Miley Cyrus literally lit up the stage during the MTV Europe Music Awards on Sunday.
After receiving the Best Music Video award for her hit song "Wrecking Ball," the 20-year-old singer decided to celebrate by lighting up what appeared to be a marijuana joint on stage.
The EMAs was held in Amsterdam where smokers can't be prosecuted for possession of small amounts. Weed is also sold openly in cafes known euphemistically as "coffee shops," reports USA Today.
While photographers captured Cyrus smoking, the stunt was scratched from MTV's U.S. broadcast of the show, which aired several hours later. A spokesman for MTV said the company had no comment on the on-stage smoke or MTV's decision to snuff it from its broadcast stateside, but MTV's web site reported Miley was "smoking weed." You can watch her accepting an award while smoking here.
The former Disney star also opened the show with an intergalactic performance of her smash hit "We Can't Stop," which featured her signature twerking moves and a dwarf. Later on, she delivered a riveting rendition of her song "Wrecking Ball" while wearing a white leotard.
Other big winners of the night included One Direction's Harry Styles, who picked up the night's first award, for "Best Look." Bruno Mars took home the EMA Best Song prize for his song "Locked Out of Heaven," while Katy Perry was honored with the Best Female Artist award.
Legendary rapper Eminem received both the Best Hip-Hop honor and a special Global Icon Award.
The prize for Best UK and Ireland act went to One Direction, while fellow singer Justin Bieber won the Best Male Artist award for the fourth consecutive year.
