On Nov. 9 the Miss Universe beauty pageant will be held with 87 contestants vying for the crown. Among them are the Slovak Republic's Jeanette Borhyová, Slovania's Nina Đurđević and Spain's Patricia Yurena Rodriguez.
The Slovak Republic has not been very successful in the Miss Universe pageant as it has only made it into the top six once. The country has competed for 21 years and hopes this year will be different with Borhyováis. The 21-year-old currently studies economics and business at the Pan-European University. She grew up in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, and enjoys snowboarding, dance and piano. She has also been performing in the Slovak national dances for six years
Slovenia began submitting participants in 2001 and has only made it into the top 15 once in 2007. This year's candidate Đurđević will attempt to make it further in the competition. Đurđević currently studies medicine at the University of Maribor in Slovenia and hopes to become a microsurgeon. She is also passionate about music and dance and played the violin for the Symphonic Orchestra of Austria for two years. She has also been practicing hip-hop dance and the electric boogie for almost a decade.
Spain won the crown in 1974 but since then has not made it out of the top 10. This year Rodriguez has been hailed as one of the favorites to win. Rodriguez currently studies acting at a theatre company. She was born in Tenerife where she dedicated herself to painting, playing the guitar and acting.
The Miss Universe pageant will be held in Moscow Russia and will be broadcast on NBC and Telemundo.
