On Nov. 9 the new Miss Universe will be crowned and will reign for one year. Eighty-seven participants will compete for the prize and among them are Poland's Paulina Krupińska, Romania's Roxana Andrei, Russia's Elmira Abdrazakova and Serbia's Ana Vrcelj.
Poland has never won the competition, the highest it has ever placed is third runner-up. Krupińska will try to break that trend this year. The native of Warsaw, Poland is a trained mountain biker who dreams of being on a television show dedicated to her freestyle biking around the world. Among her hobbies are dancing, skiing, paragliding and playing Djembe drums.
Romania's Andrei is currently a professional model and media student at Tudor Vornicu Television School. Upon graduating she hopes to be a successful television host. She enjoys playing guitar, dancing and traveling. Andrei also hopes to win the Miss Universe contest and become the first Romanian to not only get into the top 15 but also win the top honor.
Russia won the crown in 2002 but was marred by controversy as the winner Oxana Fedorova resigned from her duties and became the third Miss Universe who did not finish her reign. The country has since failed to get past the top 10. Abdrazakova will compete for the throne after winning the Miss Russia pageant. Abdrazakova currently studies global economics at the Railroad University of Siberia and dreams of becoming an actress. She was raised in a small Siberian town where she attended music school.
Serbia has a very short history with the pageant as the country only began to submit participants in 2007. The country has never made it into the top 15 and as result Ana Vrcelj has a difficult task on her hands. Vrclj currently studies ecological engineering at the University of Belgrade in Serbia and hopes to be a photographer. In her spare time she likes to paint and plant.
The pageant will be held in Moscow where current winner Olivia Culpo will crown the new Miss Universe.
