A young American girl reported as missing almost nine years ago was found in Mexico with the help of a missionary.

According to The Daily Herald Media, the then 16-year-old girl, Connie McCallister, was reported as missing by her family in 2004 and since then they hadn't heard from her.

Connie was drugged and kidnapped by her then 22-year-old boyfriend who took her to Mexico, his home country. Sometime later she managed to escape with the help of some people she had met in a hospital when she was getting medical assistance due to the beatings her boyfriend gave her.

Connie reportedly couldn't contact her family because she didn't know Spanish. She suffered for a long time and was forced to marry a man that beat her and abused her.

Florence Volzka, McCallister's aunt, told the Daily Herald Media that despite the years passing, she kept searching for her niece and finally managed to contact her online.

It was thanks to a missionary that Connie met in Mexico that she was able to contact her family again. The missionary went to the National Center for Lost and Exploited Children where they had an entry on Connie's disappearance.

"I never lost hope. I always knew she'd find a way back home. She's very close to her family," said Volzka, according to the Associated Press.

Greg Hagenbucher, Captain of the Wausau police told the Daily Herald Media that Connie was the same person that had been missing since 2004 and that they have been in contact with her through Skype. The young woman is currently married and has two daughters, so she asked authorities for help to return to the United States along with her family.

"She did ask for help to get back home, but she won't come without her daughters".

Her aunt expects Connie to arrive in late November, and offered for her to move to her Medford house so they can all live together in Athens later on.
