Is Cristiano Ronaldo injured?
The Real Madrid superstar was reportedly absent from a club training session on Thursday.
"[Coach Carlo] Ancelotti could count on 21 footballers out on the pitch to prepare for gameweek 13," said a club statement, according to ESPN. "Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe worked inside, while Coentrao continued his process of recuperation. The training session was started with two different groups, the goalkeepers worked with their coach Villiam Vecchi. Seventeen outfield players began the session with an intense warm-up, before starting ball work. Divided into two groups of eight and nine members, the players worked on circulating the ball, their touch and movement, under the watchful eye of Carlo Ancelotti and the rest of the technical team."
Ronaldo has been having one of the best stretches of his career with six goals in his last three matches; he scored a goal in Madrid 2-2 draw against Juventus in the Champions League. Moreover, he has been essential to the emergence of Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema in recent weeks after both players went through tremendous struggles earlier in the season.
Ronaldo has compiled eight Champions League goals in four matches for Madrid and has scored 13 goals in 12 Spanish League matches this season.
The other big story for the club heading into the weekend game against Real Sociedad is the return of Diego Lopez to the goal for the Merengues. Iker Casillas was terrific in the Champions League match with Juventus and many have called for his return to the starting position. However, Ancelotti seems intent on continuing to rotate his keepers.
