Real Madrid and Juventus drew 2-2 in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Real Madrid opened the game intent to retain possession as long as possible. The team passed the ball around for the first four minutes of the game to the annoyance of the crowd that jeered the team continuously. The Fox Deportes commentators had to pause for a minute to ask if they were watching Real Madrid or Barcelona playing. Eventually, Juventus won the ball back and started to dictate the pace throughout the opening of the game; Paul Pogba was the most dangerous player for the Italian side. Real Madrid eventually regained the rhythm of its "tiki taka" passing game and got scoring chances from Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo. Juventus almost scored off a deflection from Madrid's Pepe, but goalie Iker Casillas made a terrific reflex save to keep the game at 0-0. Near the 27th minute, Juventus had another brilliant scoring opportunity thanks to Claudio Marchisio, but Casillas made another reflex save with his right foot. Eventually, Juventus earned a penalty when Raphael Varane tackled Pogba in the penalty area. Arturo Vidal converted the shot to give Juventus a 1-0 lead.
Madrid woke up in the second and the midfield trio of Karim Benzema, Ronaldo and Bale were terrific in getting the team the lead. First Benzema slotted a pass for Ronaldo on the left wing. The Portuguese superstar fired it past Gianluigi Buffon to tie the game. Minutes later, Ronaldo found Bale on the right wing and the Welshman fired in the 2-1 goal. Unfortunately for Madrid, Fernando Llorente headed in a late goal to give Juventus a much-needed point.
