Uruguay and Nigeria will face off in the U-17 World Cup 2013 quarterfinals on Saturday.
The two nations will be meeting for the third time in 2013. The senior sides met in the group stage of the Confederations Cup earlier this year; Uruguay won 2-1. A few weeks later the U-21 versions of the team met in the U-21 World Cup where Uruguay took down Nigeria 2-1 in the group stage. The U-17 Nigerian side faces the challenge of ending this streak and giving his team a chance to make it to the quarterfinals.
"To achieve what we want here we have to have faith in every member of the team," Taiwo Awoniyi told FIFA.com. "It's not just about the boys in the first XI. We were all brought to the World Cup for a reason, because we can do a job. And when I'm in, it's my turn to do that job."
Nigeria has scored 18 goals in four games thus far and has only conceded five; surprisingly the team has won three and drawn one match in the tournament to date.
Uruguay has an identical record but has scored far fewer goals; however, Uruguay has only conceded two goals thus far in the four matches.
Prediction: If history repeats itself, then Uruguay should be the uncontested favorite. However, Nigeria has been terrific offensively in this tournament and should continue to score. Expect the Nigerian side to come away with a decisive 3-0 win.
Start Time: 12 p.m. EST
