Later this month, 60 contestants from around the world will compete to be crowned Miss Universe 2013. The international beauty pageant will take place in Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia, on Nov. 9 and be televised on both NBC and Telemundo.
One of the contestants competing for the crown is Miss Thailand's Chalita Yaemwannang. The 25-year-old beauty queen was born in Bangkok on April 21, 1988 and raised there until she was nine. She grew up in Nakhon Ratchasima and attended Management Technology at Suranaree University of Technology. She then went on to obtain a master's degree in tour management and marketing from Bournemouth University in the United Kingdom.
According to the official Miss Universe website, Yaemwannang wrote her master's degree thesis about sex tourism, a prevailing issue in her homeland. "I hope to promote a better image for Thai women and my country," she said.
On May 11, 2013, Yaemwannang won the Miss Universe Thailand title at Royal Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon, replacing outgoing champion Nutpimon Farida Waller. She received a large cash prize, Sprinkling Rains Crown and jewelry set from Beauty Gems, a new Toyota Prius car and other prizes, according to Wikipedia.
Aside from traveling, Chalita's other passions include drawing, cooking and creating artistic nail designs. The multi-talented beauty is also skilled in various musical instruments including electone, violin, folk guitar, classic guitar and the kim.
Plus, she loves to collect refrigerator magnets and has once worked as a toilet cleaner.
Chalita applied to a Ph.D course in Thailand, however, she had a proposal interview the same day she had to take part in a pageant bootcamp. Even though she didn't go to the interview she knew she made the right decision when she won the crown.
