David O. Russell's "American Hustle" will be previewed at the AFI Film Festival.
The movie has garnered a lot of buzz over the past months with many pundits calling it the front-runner to win the Best Picture of the year. However, the movie has not been seen by anyone outside of a couple of preview screenings.
Indiewire is reporting that the AFI previews will be the first time that the scenes from the film are shown to critics and the public. The scenes will be included in a tribute to Russell. The tribute will also include footage from "Silver Linings Playbook," "I Heart Huckabees," "Spanking the Monkey," "Three Kings" and "The Fighter."
"American Hustle" tells the story of a con man, Irving Rosenfeld, who is forced to work with wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso along with his seductive British partner Sydney Prosser. The story takes off when DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and the mafia. The movie stars Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner.
Russell recently directed "Silver Linings Playbook," which was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won one for Lawrence's performance. He also directed "The Fighter," which was also nominated for eight Oscars and won two for Bale and Melissa Leo.
"American Hustle" is being distributed by Sony on Dec. 13. The movie also stars Louis C.K., Alessandro Nivola, Elisabeth Rohm, Dawn Olivieri, Jack Huston and Michael Pena.
The AFI fest runs Nov. 7-14 in Los Angeles, Calif. The Festival will kick off with the American premiere of "Saving Mr. Banks."
