After Forbes said that the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, had replaced businessman Carlos Slim Helú as the richest man in the world, a group of Mexican celebrities have started the satirical campaign "Todos con Carlos Slim", with a video in which they mock the Mexican billionaire.
The three-and-a-half minutes video already online, comedians, actors and singer sarcastically ask the people of Mexico to donate money so that "friend" Carlos Slim can once again become the richest person in the world.
The parody stars Mexican celebrities such as Omar Chaparro, Eugenio Derbez, Laura G., Facundo, Los Tigres del Norte and Carmen Salinas among others, and already has thousands of views on YouTube.
In the video, the artists ask people to make phone calls and use the services and businesses that Slim owns.
"Call now, call whoever you want, Japan, Dubai, England, it doesn't matter", said Martha Debayle in the video, which has gone viral. While Carmen Salinas asks: "You're already screwed and poor, son, what else do you have to lose? Take the bread out of your mouth and give it to him".
As Mexican magazine Proceso reported then, Microsoft founder Bill Gates replaced Carlos Slim as the richest person in the world in September, after both men vied for the position for the last five years.
However, on Forbes' website, the Mexican still is in first place in the list of the richest people in the world with a fortune of 73 billion dollars, while Bill Gates is in second place with 67 billion dollars.
For many years, Slim has been accused of becoming rich at the expense of poor people in Mexico.
Animal Político reported in May that activists of "Two Countries One Voice", an U.S. organization, protested against the businessman during a conference he offered in the Public Library of New York.
In said occasion, "Two Countries One Voice" said that the billionaire "continues to build his telecommunications empire at the expense of ALL Mexicans, while he atrophies the country's development".
