The Live! co-host chair has seen several dozen faces next to Kelly Ripa since Regis Phibin departed from the show in November, but a permanent name will be revealed on Sept. 4.
Fifty-nine people have since sat next to Ripa, some eager to succeed Philbin, while others simply enjoying the seat as a guest.
It at first remained unseen if Ripa would be the sole host of the show and continue with guest co-hosts but the announce put those rumors to rest.
Candidates heavily rumored to succeed Philbin include Ripa's husband Mark Consuelos, who has filled in for Philbin in several occasions.
Actor Jerry Seinfeld is another rumored name, who was one of the first guest co-hosts after Philbin's departure.
Former New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan has been a candidate as he's been featured on the several times.
Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" host Seth Myers was heavily favored but when asked about taking the role, he told The Orlando Sun-Sentinel, "No, no, no, no, no." Showbiz 411's Roger Friedman reported if Meyers does take the co-host spot, he will continue his Weekend Update job but will step down as the late night show's head writer.
How I Met Your Mother's Neil Patrick Harris served as a week-long co-host back in late November, but is unlikely due to the CBS show's production schedule.
Ripa has recently said journalist Anderson Cooper would be a viable successor, but it is unlikely as he already hosts two television shows, Anderson 360 on CNN and the syndicated talk-show Anderson which is scheduled to follow a similar live format in September.
While the co-host name has not been revealed yet, what is confirmed are the guests of the show: actress Claire Danes and latest American Idol winner Phillip Phillips.
