Veneta Krasteva will represent Bulgaria in the 2013 Miss Universe beauty pageant.
Krasteva's road to Miss Universe began when she bested 29 contestants in the Miss Bulgaria Universe 2013 pageant in Sept. 2013. Before winning the pageant, Krasteva was a professional dancer who enjoyed writing poetry and swimming. She is a survivor of breast cancer and is now committed to helping other women diagnosed with the disease. The model also serves as a member of a charity foundation that takes care of homeless animals.
Bulgaria has never won the Miss Universe contest and has never made it into the top 15. The country started participating in 1997 and continued until 2007. In 2009, the country was represented again. However, the following two years the country did not submit anyone. The last Bulgarian representative went to the pageant in 2012.
Krasteva is not among the favorites to win considering the country's history with the pageant, however, this year may be different.
The 2013 Miss Universe beauty pageant will be held at Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia on Nov. 9, 2013. The ceremony will include the bikini contest, the night gown contest and the fateful question/answer portion that has given past contestants trouble. From these three tests the final winner be chosen. The current title holder is Olivia Culpo, who will place the crown on the head of her successor. The winner of the contest will reign for one year and will have the chance to travel all over the world and get her own wardrobe for a year as well as cosmetics and acting classes at the New York Film Academy.
