Hours after being mocked by FIFA President Sepp Blatter, Cristiano Ronaldo took to Twitter to fire back.
"This video shows the respect and consideration that FIFA has for me, my club and my country. Much is explained now," wrote Ronaldo, including a link to the video. "I wish Mr. Blatter health and a long life, with the certainty that he'll continue to witness the successes of his favorite teams and players."
Blatter took a shot at Ronaldo during an interview at the Oxford Union. When asked whether he preferred the Real Madrid superstar or his rival Lionel Messi, Blatter openly stated that he preferred Messi, but did not end his answer there. He proceeded to mock Ronaldo and make fun of his "hairdressing" expenses.
Ronaldo has been in the running for the FIFA Ballon d'Or for the last four years but has repeatedly lost to Messi time and time again. Many are claiming that Blatter's comments testify to FIFA's bias toward the Argentine superstar.
Blatter also took to Twitter to apologize to Ronaldo and insisted he hadn't intended to offend the superstar.
"Dear @Cristiano. I apologize if you were upset by my light-hearted answer at private event on Friday. I never meant to offend you," Blatter tweeted. "I am an honorary 'socio' at Real Madrid @cristiano & explained we've many talented players in world game, including you. Best wishes."
"I am very sorry that this situation hurt you so much and I want to apologize for that. It was never my attention to discomfort or lack respect for Real Madrid, any of its players or its fans, not just for being a founding club of FIFA but also for being a club I have followed and admired since my youth," Blatter added in another statement, according to ESPN.
