First she stole summer, then she stole the show. Just last spring, she was known as the “Blurred Lines” chick, and now she’s Esquire’s “Woman of the Year.”
Emily Ratajkowski (we can officially stop calling her “Blurred Lines” girl) won 64.6 percent of the readers’ vote in a five-round bracket, beating out starlet Jennifer Lawrence in the final round to claim to crown, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Lawrence supporters are disappointed with the outcome, obviously. Lawrence is one of the few humble actresses who are completely comfortable in their own skin. When people in the industry tell her to lose weight, she tells them to “go f*** themselves.” She plays a strong female lead in “The Hunger Games” and stole America’s heart in “Silver Linings Playbook,” for which she won her first Oscar at the age of 22.
Not to downplay Ratajkowski’s talent, natural beauty and charisma, but Lawrence seemed like the right choice. Sometimes, nudity wins. In the “Blurred Lines” video, which propelled Ratajkowski’s and Thicke’s careers to unfathomable levels, features the young model prancing around Thicke, Pharrell Williams and rapper T.I. wearing nothing but nude colored underwear and a heavy coating of red lipstick. All summer long, that was her. That was her essence. No one knew her for who she really is. But now with her new status, she’s ready to conquer.
Ratajkowski told New York Times that she wants “to be a brand,” and she’s using her “Blurred Lines” fame as a catalyst to launch an acting career. As her first major role, she’ll star as Ben Affleck’s mistress in “Gone Girl,” a mystery film based off the successful novel. Perhaps by next year’s competition, she will join the ranks of Hollywood royalty alongside Lawrence.
The “Blurred Lines” girl is gone. Emily Ratajkowski has officially taken her place.
