Tragedy has struck. The Jonas Brothers are no more. They’re gone. No long will they light up the lives of teenagers worldwide. No longer will throngs of screaming 13-year-olds shut down city avenues when the band comes into town.
But as devastating as the news may be, let’s dissect what this truly means. First of all, the Jonas Brothers are growing up. Now that they’re in their mid 20s, they’re pushing the brink of the demographic to which they cater. Second, they now have the opportunity to explore solo careers. They have the talent, the connections and the clout, what’s stopping them? Instead of one Jonas Brothers band, we could soon have three separate Jonas Brother entities. Hooray.
According to E! News, the pop stars made the official announcement on Tuesday, Oct. 29, nearly three weeks after cancelling their fall tour due to “a deep rift within the band.”
“It’s over for now,” said Kevin Jonas, 25, who is expecting his first child with his wife Danielle Jonas.
Although expressing similar sentiments, Kevin’s brother, 21-year-old drummer and vocalist Nick Jonas provided a slight glimmer of hope. “It’s really hard to say ‘forever,’” he said. “We’re closing a chapter, for sure.”
Back on Oct. 3, the band cancelled their tour when Nick admitted that he felt trapped and needed to share his feelings with his brothers. He couldn’t keep it bottled in any longer, but Joe Jonas, 24, affirmed that the entire band felt the same way. “It was a unanimous decision,” he said.
Forever is a long time, and fans hope that their beloved band of Disney brothers will reunite one day. Unfortunately, by the time they get back together, their prominently preteen and young teen fanbase will have dissolved. If the Jonas Brothers do return, they will have to rebrand themselves entirely, a daunting task that could impede their progress. So, Jonas Brother fans, there’s no easy way to say it. The Jonas Brothers are gone and they won’t be back for a long time.
