Paramount has officially revealed that Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street" will released on Christmas day.
Paramount chairman Brad Grey announced the news after a screening of the final film, which was seen by star Leonardo DiCaprio and other top executives at Paramount.
"Marty's work is fantastic. He's continued to work on it but now it's officially going to be ready for Christmas Day and I'm delighted," said Gray, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Originally the film was reportedly 180 minutes in length and therefore too long for the studio. The studio was worried that the length would not allow more showtimes and thus would not recover the $90 million that was invested on the film. The new running time is now 165 minutes. The film will now qualify for awards season and many pundits had speculated that it would be a major player in the race.
The film is now being touted as a Best Picture contender with DiCaprio seen as a front-runner for the Best Actor award.
"The Wolf of Wall Street" tells the story of Jordan Belfort's rise to becoming a wealthy stockbroker living the high life to his fall and involvement in crime.
The movie also stars Matthew McConaughey, Jonah Hill, Jean Dujardin, Rob Reiner, Kyle Chandler, Margot Robbie, Jon Bernthal, Cristin Milioti, P.J. Byrne and Ethan Suplee. Red Granite's Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland produced the film with DiCaprio, Scorsese, Emma Koskoff and Alexandra Milchan.
The film will now compete against "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty," "47 Ronin," "Grudge Match" and the Justin Bieber documentary "Believe."
