Some children in parts of the country may have to put their trick-or-treating plans on hold as forecasters predict that certain regions will be hit with a scary Halloween snowstorm this week.
The National Weather Service is warning that a strong winter storm system will affect the northern Rockies and some Plains states in the coming days.
According to The Weather Channel, "snow is spreading or will spread into the interior Northwest, northern Rockies, adjacent High Plains and parts of the Great Basin and Sierra Nevada."
In addition, the channel states that "The heaviest accumulations over the next 48 hours should occur in parts of western and central Montana and the mountains of northern Wyoming. Some moderate accumulations are also expected in western South Dakota."
The Arctic cold front is currently plunging southward from the Canadian Rockies and Prairies into the northern Rockies and Plains. Very strong high pressure is building southward behind the front, while strong low pressure has developed over Nevada. In addition, even stronger winds can be expected on the west and south sides of the low.
Some of the strongest winds can be expected along the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada and into western parts of the Las Vegas area. High wind gusts Monday will lead to blowing dust, blowing sand, poor visibility for motorists, and the potential for some minor structural damage.
In addition to a vigorous upper-atmospheric low over the Great Basin, snow is spreading or will spread into the interior Northwest, northern Rockies, adjacent High Plains and parts of the Great Basin and Sierra Nevada.
