Iker Casillas could remain with Real Madrid despite recent statements he has made that hint at his departure.

The future of Real Madrid's captain remains the club's most prominent storyline and it seemingly hit a new peak when Casillas finally hinted that he may be getting fed up with his time on the bench. Despite returning to camp in form, Casillas has been relegated to being the backup for Diego Lopez. He stated that if his playing time did not increase by the time the January transfer window came around, then he might have to leave.

"I have decided I want to be part of this squad for a long time but if the situation doesn't change in three months and you ask me the same question, perhaps I will answer that I am planning to leave," he said according to Sky Sports.

Many took this as an ultimatum from the superstar, but he recently clarified his statements and said that he did not want to pressure his team into giving him more time on the pitch.

"When you talk, you talk. My comments weren't meant to offend anyone," he said according to Sky Sports. "I don't want to give anyone an ultimatum. I'm getting used to seeing the name Iker Casillas in the media every day."

The team also seems intent on keeping its star player around.

"I haven't talked to him about leaving," said Real Madrid Coach Carlo Ancelotti in another report by Sky Sports. "He's a great keeper and a great professional.

"Even if he doesn't play he helps the team, he's a true captain," Ancelotti added. "I hope he stays because he's good for the atmosphere. I need to talk to him because it's only fair, but he looks happy to me and he's been very professional."
