Two single words have become synonymous with Donald Trump’s existence: “you’re fired.”
On his hit NBC series “Apprentice,” Trump crafted his demeanor and celebrity status by firing people. Sometimes that’s all it takes in today’s pop culture. But Trump never thought he’d hear those words from NBC executives to him, of all people. He’s the one that fires people. Not the one who gets fired, right?
Wrong. Donald Trump might be getting fired. Seriously. The network has yet to renew “Celebrity Apprentice” for a new season, despite its popularity and Trump's swagger. Although he may not be officially fired, he’s at least taking an undetermined leave of absence.
“We are on track to produce ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ as always planned, coordinating among New York City weather conditions, sponsor needs, and celebrities’ schedules,” NBC’s head of alternative programming, Paul Telegdy, said in a statement.
Suspicions of Trump’s return to NBC first arose last May when NBC announced its schedule, that for the first time in a decade, did not include an ‘Apprentice’ edition, TVLine reports. The network assured fans that although the show was on the bubble, preliminary casting on a new season had already begun. However, now so late in the game and still without any word from NBC, the earliest “Celebrity Apprentice” could air is spring or early summer.
So don’t rule anything out. It’s unwise to jump to conclusions before the network gives its official word, but in the meantime, it’s still fun to picture the look on Trumps' face when his famous catchphrase is thrown right back at him.
