Russell Brand has embedded himself in modern pop culture. His success as an actor, a comedian and even an innovative thinker has won the hearts of his fans across the globe, and he continues to spread his 'Brand brand' everywhere he goes. On last night’s edition of the BBC’s “Newsnight,” he may have started, what some news outlets have called, his own revolution. He came on the show to talk to Jeremy Paxman about his role as a guest editor of the New Statesman's recently published revolution-themed issue.

“I just don’t get my authority from this pre existing paradigm which is quite narrow and only serves a few people,” Russell said on the show, commenting on why people should listen to him. “I look elsewhere for alternatives that might be of service to humanity.”

Throughout the remainder of the interview, Brand and Paxman, aka Paxo, divulged into subjects such as political apathy, corporate greed and beautiful beards. Paxo tried to reel in Brand’s arguments and even called him a very “trivial man,” but Brand kept firing off. He even admitted that he cried upon learning that his grandmother had also been “f***ed over” by aristocrats.

At the end, Brand validated his opening statements, bringing his argument full circle. "If we can engage that feeling and change things, why wouldn't we?" he said. "Why is that naive? Why is that not my right because I'm an 'actor'? I've taken the right. I don't need the right from you. I don't need the right from anybody. I'm taking it."

Whether you’re a Brand fan or not, his interview with Paxman is worth watching. You may be surprised as to what you find.
