World View Enterprises is planning to launch a program that will promote space tourism, giving tourists an opportunity to go 30 kilometers above the earth's surface.
Under the proposed program, World View wwill launch space tourists at a height equivalent to almost 100,000 feet above the Earth through a space-ready balloon for $75,000. The price is indeed hefty, but the enterprise pointed out that the space trip that they can offer is definitely worth the price.
The space-ready capsule will not reach a point that is enough to enter orbit and experience "space weightlessness" but it could give tourists a wonderful view of our planet.
"The World View spaceflight experience will begin with a gentle ride in the comfort of a luxuriously appointed space-qualified capsule, lifted by a high altitude balloon to 30 km. There, passengers will remain aloft for approximately two hours before gliding back to Earth," the World View Enterprise said in a statement posted on Space Ref.
"Passengers will be among the few to have seen the curvature of the Earth with their own eyes. They will be able to gaze at the astounding views, the blackness of space, the brilliance of stars and the thin veil of atmosphere enveloping our planet," the enterprise added in the statement.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is also leaning towards approving the plan of the company pending the mandated components and subscale testing.
According to the FAA, the World View capsule, which will be developed by the Paragon Space Development Corporation, will under the administration and jurisdiction of Commercial Space Flight.
World View CEO Jane Poynter expressed confidence that their space tourism program will "open up a new realm for exercising human curiosity" by giving customers a breathtaking and once-in-a-lifetime experience.
"Seeing the Earth hanging in the ink-black void of space will help people realize our connection to our home planet and to the universe around us, and will surely offer a transformative experience to our customers," Poynter said. "We look forward to pioneering this new, accessible and affordable spaceflight regime, and to sharing the breathtaking, once-in-a-lifetime experience with people from around the globe."
