The New York Islanders and Vancouver Canucks will face off on Tuesday night.
The Islanders are coming off a poor performance at home on Saturday against the Carolina Hurricanes. After playing their best game of the season against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, many expected New York to build on its efforts and collect vital points at home. However, the team looked lethargic and trailed 3-0 in the second period. The team rallied in the final minutes and wound up settling for a 4-3 loss.
"We've got to play a full 60 minutes," defenseman Andrew MacDonald said according to NHL.com. "There wasn't enough urgency early. We were kind of standing around a little bit too much and we got burnt a few times. It's unacceptable."
The poor performance was overshadowed by the loss of top defender Lubomir Visnovsky to injury as well as a two-game suspension for forward Michael Grabner after a questionable hit on Nathan Gerbe. On the positive end of the spectrum, captain John Tavares managed to extend his point streak to seven games.
Meanwhile the Canucks are coming off a 3-1 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The team has racked up a record of five wins, four losses, and one overtime loss. Goalie Roberto Luongo was left on the bench in the most recent game in favor of rookie Eddie Lack but will likely get the call in goal against the Islanders on Tuesday.
Prediction: The Canucks are the superior team and should find a way to win; 3-1 Canucks.
